Does my Sun Certification ever expire?

No. Once you are certified at a certain level for a certain version you are always certified for that level and version.

Are update exams offered for people who are currently certified under an older version and want to have a more recent certification?

No. We do not create special exams for candidates already certified for another version. Everyone certifying at each level is required to pass the same exam.

Why would I want to recertify for a new version?

Only you can determine whether you have a need to keep your certification current. Factors for you to consider are: the version of the technology you or your company use, the requirements of your employer or prospective hiring manager and clients, personal challenge, and need to stay current.

What is the difference between Solaris 8 and Solaris 7?

A: Solaris 8 certification objectives contain significant revisions from Solaris 7 objectives. The Solaris 8 certification objectives include entire new sections (examples: Editor, Remote Connection ), omit others (examples: LP Print Service, Print commands), and reorganize the content in still other chapters. In addition, between Solaris 7 and 8, objectives within chapters have been revised. For instance, an objective focusing on the 'man' command was added to the System Concepts section. The LearnSolaris questions for Solaris 8 include material that is new with the release (such as UFS snapshots and UDF file systems).

Becoming a Sun Certified System Administrator means you've demonstrated knowledge and skills ranging from printing to security, disk management to back-up and recovery in today's premier network computing environment - Solaris.

What exams am I required to clear to be Sun Certified System Administrator for Solaris?

You have to clear Sun Certified System Administrator PART 1 and Sun Certified System Administrator PART 2 exams.

Can I skip PART 1 of Sun Certified System Administrator and go directly to PART 2?

No. The System Administrator Certification exams, regardless of the Solaris version, is a two part exam. You must complete Part I before proceeding to Part II. You will not receive a certification until you have successfully passed Part I and Part II.

At the end of the Sun Certified Network Administrator course for Solaris, what skills would have I acquired?

Becoming a Sun Certified Network Administrator means you've demonstrated a superior level of expertise and the ability to implement more complex local area networks in a client-server environment, including TCP/IP and associated protocols.

What exams am I required to clear to be Sun Certified Network Administrator for Solaris?

You have to clear the following exams: Sun Certified System Administrator PART 1, Sun Certified System Administrator PART 2, Sun Certified Network Administrator.

Can I take the Sun Certified Network Administrator without being a Sun Certified System Administrator first?

Yes, however, you will not be certified as a Sun Certified Network Administrator if you have not taken both part I and part II of the Sun Certified System Administrator.

What if I could not clear my Sun Certification exam?

You may retake the exam as many times as you like, however you must wait a minimum of 2 weeks before taking the same exam more than once. If you happen to fail an exam, use the score report breakdown of your exam to determine your areas of weakness, then spend some time doing further study in those areas.

Is there a Certification logo for Solaris?

No. There is not a Solaris certification logo available at this time.

How do I view my results?

You may view your results in our http://www.galton.com/~sun/ You will be able to view your results within 3-5 working days.

After I clear my exam, what do I do to receive my certificate?

You do not have to do anything to receive your certificate except pass the required exams for your certification program. A certificate will automatically be sent to you from Sun Microsystems.

How long will it take to receive my certificate?

Non-U.S. candidates will receive a certificate within 20 workings days.

Will I be able to claim as Sun Certified if I haven't yet received my certificate?

You are officially certified from the date you pass the exam. You may use the Prometric score report as proof until you receive your certificate.

What will my certification package include?

An Official Sun Certificate Letter of Congratulations Lapel Pin
